Forest School Ethos

Forest school embraces the outdoors as an inspirational learning environment and focuses on opportunities for the holistic development of each individual, rather than specific curricular outcomes. As the groups explore and experience the natural world, on a regular and sustained basis a Forest School is a unique way of building confidence and self-esteem, learning new life skills and promoting independence, through hands on learning experiences and exposure to taking controlled risks. Sessions involve playing games which may involve developing listening, communication, co-operation and physical skills. Children develop motor skills, creativity and imagination through the use of natural materials in crafts and activities. Throughout their time in Forest school they may use hand tools and be involved in lighting and cooking on fires through out the seasons and whatever the weather.
