Picture News
We use Picture News as part of our Character Education offer. The Picture News resources are designed to provide opportunities for children to learn from our world and develop respect for other’s beliefs, feelings and faiths. They encourage exploration, discussion, challenge and inspire children to learn!
They also offer additional opportunities for a meaningful and relevant link to British Values, and develop links between personal, school and community values.
What are British Values?
In accordance with The Department for Education we aim to actively promote British values in schools to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. Pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect and tolerance and understand that while different people may hold different views about what is "right" and "wrong", all people living in England are subject to its law.
The Key Values are:
- democracy
- rule of law
- individual liberty
- mutual respect and tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs
Picture News Assemblies
We do weekly Picture News assemblies. These are assemblies that explain a current news story in detail, with further open questions and opportunities for discussion and debate at an age appropriate level.
Please see below for an example of a Picture News assembly.
